In this article we will use Play.ht and learn to use it for audio generation, voice cloning, and other possible useses.
Creating a play.hT account
PlayHT offers a free trial to new users with a limited word count of 2500. You can grab this trial via the “Try For Free” option on the top right corner —
Simply, you can login with your Google Account, or your email address and a password. While you create an account, you’ll be asked questions such as:
- Are you an individual or a company?
- What are you creating audio for?
Once answered, you’ll land onto your PlayHT Dashboard where you can begin the work —
The vertical menu on the left allows you with several options including:
- Create a new file: To start creating new voice audio.
- Recent files: To check the recent created audio projects file.
- Files: This will contain all files you have created in the dashboard.
- Voice Cloning: This opens lets you clone a voice.
- API Access: To get settings related to API
- Non-english languages
- Billing
Let’s explore each of PlayHT’s features.
How to Convert Text to Speech using PlayHT?
All you need is 3 steps to convert text into audio with PlayHT —
Paste the sentence or paragraph in the given area. Select your choice of voice from the AI voice library, along with the custom style, accent, language, and speed. Then click on the play icon.
After you click on the play icon, PlayHT will start to generate the text into speech.
*Here, we’ve chosen the “Donna” narrative at the 1.0x speed.
Lastly, press the “Enter” button to add another paragraph and repeat the same process to get your audio.
Note that you can customise each paragraph with different AI voices
Press the enter button in order to add the next paragraph. And generate speech for the it as well, with your choice of voice and speed. You get the option to download these generated voice or even delete it.
In this way, you can generate all your required paragraph into speech of your preferred voice choice.
How to Clone Your Voice using PlayHT?
Cloning your voice means, making a duplicate of your voice and then using text to speech AI model to generate realistic voice for any set of sentence without any involvement of the original speaker.
Cloning a voice is a powerful feature that can saves hours or time and tons of effort. PLAY.HT can clone any voice with just 30 seconds of high quality original audio from the person.
Here’s the step to clone your voice in PLAY.HT:
1. Click on “Voice cloning” in the left side menu.
2. Click on “Create a new clone”
Click on Instant. Play.ht allows 1 voice cloning in the free plan. To clone more voice, you need to upgrade to higher plan.
3. Give a name for your new cloned voice, select the gender, and upload 1 minute of Audio clip of the person. and check mark the consent. Click on “Create”
Once a voice is cloned. Access it directly in text to speech conversion just as we did for the AI voice.
Here’s an example of my own (Satya Prakash) cloned voice. Combined with AI voice, listen to the conversations in the audio clip.
